Discussing each other’s artwork is quite a recent way for us to cooperate. Here’s a brief example of how we get into a dialogue - in this case about a new drawing.

Tony’s description. The title is: linear city and the sun [“one planet: earth – one people: humans”]. This is my second version. The subtitle is a strong affirmation. The drawing, with its colours, cityscape, huge sun, contains an ‘object’ fastened to the sun. It is an image to do with our human interaction with the planet and cosmos. A process that is undoubtedly contributing to the disasters caused by global warming.
Barbara’s commentary – I like the horizontal bands of background colour. I like the red circle using part of our damaged doorknob to draw around! I wasn’t sure about scale wondering if the red circle was a balloon. I’m still puzzled by ‘the object fastened to the sun’ though recognise it as part of Tony’s visual language. After the initial outline was completed we talked about how to strengthen the cityscape skyline. I agree with the theme and especially the subtitle – ‘one planet: earth – one people: humans.’ In all the chaos and violence and hurt in our world my life-experience always confirms my deep sense that peace now and hope for the future both turn on our acceptance of this truth. One earth one people. And dialogue and negotiation not economic hostility and war!
At first glance I saw a being with cochlear implants that had come loose (and tiny legs). Perhaps there is something about the world not hearing what science, humanity, and the gospel is telling us!
To me the red circle looks like a giant Covid virus complete with spike protein. It looks like it could wreak havoc on the metropolis, but seems to be passing through leaving the city unscathed. All my projection, of course. Covid has left it's legacy and the vaccines left their own damage. Many still struggle with the symptoms. The yellow band suggests a cornfield or field of gold, and together with the green field and blue sky offers hope.
