I get the sense that people are very tired. No one doubts the size or complexity of the task especially if you think it is to eradicate covid-19 from the UK, let alone the world! The virus is the source of our ills. But reforming the UK [let alone the world] is a much wider and tougher task. Where do we start? I’d begin by working at practical alternatives to consumer capitalism with its growth-slogan and profits-first approach. I’d say we can prioritize decisions that protect our environment against pollution as well as climate changes. I’d argue that we can [after so many years going in the opposite direction] place greater power and responsibility at local and regional government levels. So maybe we are tired, down even – but definitely not out!
